The Bell Meadow Pavilion sub-committee, led by Graham North, along with the St Nicholas at Wade with Sarre Parish Council hosted a Christmas Charity quiz night. Raising funds for the Thanet 1st Responders, the evening included teams from both within and outside the villages. With quiz master-extraordinaire Mark Lawrance at the helm, taking the six teams through four tough rounds to become the Bell Meadow Quiz Champions of 2019.
After counting the scores (and checking them twice), the Thanet 1st Responders “A team” became the new champions, and gratefully accepted a fantastic Christmas hamper, donated by Wendy Wooler, owner of The Sun Inn pub in the village, as the winning prize.
Sue Orchard, who lives in Sarre and is a senior paramedic with SECAMB, was then invited to say a few words about the 1st Responders. She explained that they are medical volunteers who are trained to attend certain types of emergency calls in the area where they live or work. Their aim is to reach a potential life threatening emergency in the first vital minutes before the ambulance crew arrives.
Closing the evening, Parish Chair, Gordon Bryant presented Sue Orchard with a cheque for £100 from the funds raised by the evening’s entertainment and thanked everyone who was involved in organising the event, and all those taking part and supporting such an amazing voluntary service.
