“This is your victory”, said Churchill, seventy-five years ago at the end of ‘our darkest hour’. VE Day was a time to party and let’s hope that we will have the opportunity to party when our 2020 victory over Covid-19 is announced and celebrate as a community. Stay home and party in your garden and stay safe.
The terrible Coronavirus emergency and consequent Government guidance means that we must cancel or postpone the majority of the VE Day 75 community celebrations due to take place on the bank holiday weekend of 8th – 10th May. It is right and proper that people should be kept safe and healthy.

You can follow the days marked timings with the following:
- 11am – Two minutes silence to remember those who have fallen
- 3pm – A Toast to Heroes – marking the exact moment PM Churchill announced the end of WWII in Europe. The recorded speech by Prime Minister Churchill is being broadcast by the BBC into our homes at 3pm (click here to listen to his “finest hour” speech or click here to listen to his announcement of the end of the war in Europe).
- 7pm – Where possible, bells will ring out “a Cry for Peace” – As the bells ring around the world, why not read out to your friends and family, a prepared version by clicking here.
I hope that we will all support this aspect of VE Day from the safety of our homes.
